Mr. Simon Reef Musa shared his Testimony on the Late Emir of Lere, he stated as follows:
I knew the Emir of Lere, Brigadier General Abubakar Garba Muhammad when he served as the military governor of old Sokoto State. When I was rationalised out of the Kaduna State Polytechnic Zaria in 1993, few months after I was employed, I was rationalised for being newly employed.
I went to see him for his intervention. He was shocked when I told him my story.
He immediately put a call to the rector. The royalty was visibly angry and asked: “Why should you sack a young man because he has been newly recruited for a job? Do you know what you have done to his career?”
He turned to me after telling them to ensure my case is reviewed: “Never worry young man. Basu da imani. You must be returned to the polytechnic some day. But you have to exercise patience.”
A year later, I was recalled back to the teaching job I so much loved. He kept his words.
Such times when big men go all out to keep their words! He was a man of peace and justice. He never saw people as Muslims or Christians. This monarch only saw humanity and Nigerians that should be treated equally.
May God grant eternal repose to the soul of this great monarch and forgive his shortcomings.
In his death.
we have lost a great King that loved justice and equity.
