Mr Peter Ojiefo, the traditional ruler of Ewohimi in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo, has called for peaceful electioneering campaigns and election as the state goes to the poll on Sept. 19.
Ojiefo made the call on Wednesday in his palace at Ewohimi, when the PDP campaign team took its ward to ward campaigns to the community.
Addressing the campaign team and the candidate of the party, Gov. Godwin Obaseki, the monarch said that it was imperative that the election was held peacefully.
He said that the state had always been known for peace.
“I also know that you are a hard working and very peaceful person. So, please continue to ensure that peace continues to prevail in the state all through the electioneering campaigns as well as during the election.
In his response, Obaseki, gave assurance that he would continue ensure that peace reigned in the state.
He noted that without peace, no development could take place.
“That is why I decided to go to the people to sell our programme, and that is why we are here. I believe the election will be based on our ability to convince the populace of what we have done and what we can do,” he said.
He appreciated the monarch and the traditional council for their support and prayers for him and his administration over the years.
Meanwhile, the Ewohimi Community Development Association assured the governor of their support to the PDP during the Sept. 19 election.
